FEEL YOU WITH MITCH REVS
FEEL YOU is a celebration of individuality and style with artists, creatives, and activists from around the world. We continue the series with Mitch Revs.
Mitch wears the Classic Mini in black.
Mitch is a Newcastle based visual artist who supports his local community and the world around him through colour. The young, easy-going, surfy guy creates art with the aim to put a smile of people’s faces. Best known for his intricate cartoon style drawings, Mitch meticulously creates these illustrations from scratch, turning them into large scale murals hosted right throughout Australia. In his spare time Mitch participates in numerous passion projects including supporting and painting local hospitals and venues, running his own art gallery and most recently, his own art classes – encouraging creativity in everyone he meets.
Introduce yourself, tell us who you are and what you do?
Hi, I’m Mitch Revs! Artist would be what I am best known for, Entrepreneur and Business Owner became an add on from this. I have two boutique galleries here in my home town of Newcastle, NSW. One that is home to all of my artwork + Merchandise ( Mitch Revs Gallery ) & Makers / Creators - A space that is dedicated to supporting local artists. What I do? I try to add colour to our world wherever I can. I paint murals, fine art and digital illustrations
How do you FEEL when you create?
Free, inspired and excited. There is no better feeling than creating something that you’re proud of and just watching it come to life.
Where do you draw your inspiration and what motivates you to do what you do?
From my surroundings. The ocean, the community, nature and animals. I do what I do because I genuinely love it. You will never catch me working an office job, and I have been so blessed that my art has been able to inspire others and has been able to become my full-time “job”.
How are you FEELing these days?
Motivated, excited, nervous. I am releasing a new body of work on Saturday 28th November and it is always exciting to see the community see what I have been looking at every day for six months, for the first time. 2021 is going to be a big one, but a good one. I can’t wait to get into it.
What does your style say about you?
It represents how my brain works - especially the digital illustrations. There is always so much going on and this reflects the 100 thoughts I have bouncing around at any given time. My art in general reflects my attitude, positive, bright and happy. I use vibrant colours to brighten people’s day and I leave little quotes that I hope put a smile on someone’s face.
Any words to live by?
My ‘Key To Creativity’ Artwork. I wrote this in 2018, and I believe it is even more relevant now. “You might not think you are a creative person/parent & that is ok, just make sure this does not lead you to unintentionally remove the influence of creativity from the youth of today. Let them decide their future. Cover them in paint & let colour become part of their life before they find their iPad”.
Describe a day in the life of Mitch Revs
I start my day at around 3:30am - I am up and in the gym. I find that moving my body first thing in the morning helps stimulate my brain. Waking up early has become an addiction for me. I love the idea of living half a day before most people wake up. I am most creative between the hours of 7am - 1pm so this is when most of my artwork is created. Generally I throw a surf or two in the mix & a coffee. Life is good.
Which pair of UGG’s fits your style best
Classic Mini. I put them on with jeans, shorts, whatever I want. Love to wear them in the house or camping.
