FEEL YOU WITH DEENA JONZE
FEEL YOU is a celebration of individuality and style with artists, creatives, and activists from around the world. We continue the series with Deena Jonze.
Deena wears her Classic Mini Boots in black.
Deena Lynch, aka Jaguar Jonze is a Brisbane based singer, songwriter, visual artist and all round creative powerhouse. Deena looks to process her most intimate vulnerabilities and support mental health awareness through creative expression - encouraging and empowering her fans to do the same.
Introduce yourself, tell us who you are and what you do?
I'm Deena Lynch, but I'm more commonly known for my monikers - Jaguar Jonze for my music, Spectator Jonze for my visual art and Dusky Jonze for my photography. Born in Japan, I'm a half Taiwanese, half Australian visual artist and musician.
Relaxing in the Classic Mini.
Where do you draw your inspiration and what motivates you to do what you do?
Being creative saved my life, and what motivates me is to hopefully send the message on to someone else that needs it - that trauma doesn't need to define us and we can (at our own pace) take back the control to our own lives. For me, art and music has allowed me to do that and now I can't live without it.
How do you FEEL when you create?
I feel the most free. I've realised that I need to create to be able to express and understand what's going on in my own internal world, externally and to also learn and grow from others. For me, creation goes hand in hand with processing my thoughts.
How are you FEELing these days?
2020 has been a hell of a year for me, having struggled with COVID-19, seen the music industry get completely decimated, juggled the uncertainty and anxiety of my career... I feel like I'm in a really great place and have had as much fortunes to match my misfortunes and count my lucky stars for it.
What does your style say about you?
I feel like 2020 has changed my style a bit this year but it all still fits with being relaxed, quirky and comfortable.
Any words to live by?
Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.
Describe a day in the life of Deena Lynch
To be honest, that's a hard task for me as each of my days are so different. Sometimes, I put my music hat on, sometimes I have my art hat on and a lot of days it might be a press or shoot day. What I do try to do each day is to get close to 10,000 steps, learn a little bit of French and Chinese each morning, meditate for at least 15 minutes, and do daily vocal warm ups. I start each day with a To Do list to help focus my busy mind then try and blitz through it.
Which pair of UGG’s fits your style best
I have lived through my mini-quilted Leopard UGG all year. Not even kidding, I bought a pair for Brisbane and a pair for Sydney as I live between the two cities and wanted myself to be comfortably sorted in each place. Those shoes got me through hospital, isolation, hotel quarantine, travel and home time.
